We are deeply enamoured by Lord Howe Island’s timeless beauty, its rich biodiversity, and the unique atmosphere it fosters. This profound inspiration guided the architectural vision of Island House, leading us to design spaces that celebrate and immerse within the island’s natural ecosystem. Embracing enduring quality as our guiding principle, we selected materials that mirror the island’s incredible timelessness—hardwood cladding, copper roofing, solid oak flooring, and marble tiles. With soaring 4.2-meter ceilings and highlight windows, our homes seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor environments, allowing the lush forest to flow in while providing harmonious spaces for the art, furniture, and soundscapes we have carefully curated.
Our commitment to authenticity extends beyond the structural elements to every detail within Island House. Each residence is thoughtfully filled with authentic mid-century furniture, bespoke artworks, and high-fidelity sound systems, creating an ecosystem of touch points that resonate with the island’s serene and timeless essence. These elements work together in harmony, enhancing the guest experience by fostering beautiful feelings and inspiring meaningful interactions.
We invite guests to connect, reflect, and create lasting memories.
At Island House, we are deeply proud of our thoughtfully curated art collection, featuring talented artists such as Mick Namarari Tjapaltjarri, Eunice Jack, Mrs. Bennett, and Regina Wilson, whose works grace national and state galleries. Our personal journey to remote art communities like Pepimenati has allowed us to select pieces that beautifully reflect the island’s timeless beauty and serene atmosphere. Among our treasured collections, Alison Coates’ sculptures stand out for their harmonious blend of organic and industrial elements. Using materials like vellum and wire, Coates creates dynamic forms that echo natural shapes, inviting guests to experience movement and light in innovative ways that seamlessly complement our mid-century modern furnishings.
We also cherish cultural works by Katjarra Butler, whose timeless pieces naturally enhance our mid-century modern collection. The vibrant yellow hues of our Arne Vodder sideboard echo the “Kuun” ochre frequently seen in Katjarra’s paintings. When designing our space, we sought a bold statement piece, leading us to feature Ib Geertsen’s signature teardrop shapes throughout the site, culminating in our custom-built Island Bench that brings a striking presence to our expansive room. Our art collection at Island House is a heartfelt celebration of timeless beauty, and we hope these ideals enrich and inspire our guests during their stay.
